We hope you enjoy our Year 2 class page. You will find information about our current topic and get to see photographs of the many fun things we do in Year 2!
For our second summer topic we will be learning all about Journeys. We have all been on a journey! We may have travelled by car, train, plane or boat. Have you thought what it would be like to go on a journey into space or the jungle? Some of the questions we will be asking are:
What is a journey?
What journeys have you been on?
How do we travel to different places?
What imaginary journey would you like to go on?
Parents as Partners:
Discuss with your child times when you have been on a journey. What did you see during the journey?
A Take Home Activity will involve writing about what we might pack for going on a journey.
As part of this topic:
We will learn about different ways of travelling.
We will write a postcard from the moon.
We will create some space collages.
We will set up a space rocket in our classroom!
We will write a jungle imaginative story and listen to jungle music.
Problem Solving - 10th May 2018
All the Year 2's went outside to complete many different activities. They made 10 in numicon tiles and could work out 5 x 10 = 50 from counting in 10's. They added together 2 numbers on the target boards and drew number lines and shapes from chalk. They tried to build the highest wall without it falling over and even played giant snakes and ladders!
We had so much fun and most importantly we were using our numeracy skills and learning the whole time!
Here are a number of apps you could try at home.
- Penguin maths – for adding and subtracting within 20
- hit the button - for revising the story of 10 and doubles.
- phonicsfun4 – for revising letter sounds
Year 2 pupils celebrated World Book Day. Here are a selection of the fabulous costumes!!
