Music

Here in BCIPS music plays a central role in how we come together as a school community to share experiences together and to celebrate.

We come together as a school to sing in our weekly assemblies. In our classrooms children also get the opportunity to explore music appreciation, as well as learn to perform with a wide range of percussion instruments. From Year 4 all children in school learn how to play the recorder and get the opportunity to perform at school assemblies, the annual carol service and at other key events in our school calendar.  Children also try their hand at musical composition, including using exciting apps such as Garage Band.

We have a number of peripatetic music teachers which visit school offering tuition in a wide range of musical instruments including brass, strings, guitar and piano.

Children have the chance to develop their musical interests further through our various music clubs. We have two wonderful choirs, a senior and junior, allowing as many children as possible to take part and experience being part of a choir. Mrs Moore runs a String Group where our violinists learn to perform as an ensemble. We also have a school band which includes guitars, drums and recorders. 'The Central Beat' is our famous Steel Band, one of the only Steel Bands in the country.

At BCIPS we love to welcome performing groups and musical artists into school. We have regular performances from local traditional music groups as well as touring performers. We are continually striving to increase and improve the experiences we can offer our children in order to inspire and foster their love of music.
