Visual Discrimination

Visual discrimination and visual memory are important skills that children in the Foundation Stage should acquire in order to access the Language and Literacy element of the curriculum.

Visual memory requires children to recall objects/pictures in sequence, copy or complete patterns or sequence a series of pictures to retell a story.

For visual discrimination, children should discriminate between familiar objects/pictures which clearly contrast. Attention should be drawn to colour, size and orientation.
