This is one of our favourite books to read by Julia Donaldson. In our class, the pupils listen to the story of Betty O’Barley and Harry O’Hay as they plan their wedding. Then we all get involved in the preparations, from preparing lists to creating patterned necklaces and bow ties. There is lots of writing as pupils create their own wedding invitations and congratulations cards. In order for us to have an actual Scarecrow’s Wedding, we need actual scarecrows which the pupils themselves helped to create. There is a lot of playful teaching and learning which resulted in a lot of smiles, laughter, enthusiasm and most of all fun.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
