Numeracy in Year 1
In Year 1 we introduce children to early mathematical concepts in a hands on practical way. We explore all fives areas of maths in our year 1 curriculum.
Our aim is to give the children a solid foundation in mathematics on which to build on as they progress through school. A solid grasp of mathematical language is such a keystone in building those foundations in mathematical understanding.
Numicon
We use Numicon as a hands on, practical resource through which to teach the concept of number to the children. The video below explains so well why numicon is an invaluable resource in the classroom to help children understand the number system.
