World Around Us

Children are naturally curious and often ask questions about the world around us. This area of learning helps children to explore some of these big questions. The World Around Us incorporates geography, history, science and technology. This is taught through 4 different strands: Interdependence, Place, Movement and Energy, Change over time.

Each class will have opportunities to investigate the world they live in by exploring different topics in each year group. Pupils also participate in an abundance of activities and visits throughout their time in B.C.I.P.S.

We really enjoy taking the learning outdoors for a hands on approach. Some of the places we visit are: Castle Park, Ward Park, Walled Garden, Belfast Zoo, Streamvale Farm, North Down Museum, Ulster Museum and the Titanic Museum. Our Year 6 and Year 7 pupils also have the opportunity to participate in residential trips to Lorne and Edinburgh.

Every year our school takes part in the Big bird Watch, when we have the chance to work closely with Karen Sheils from the RSPB.

Our school currently has its Green Flag status and is an 'Eco-School'. We continually educate our pupils to look after the world we live in and protect our environment. We are hoping to qualify as a Forest School in the near future, with again even more learning taking place outdoors.
